Bengal in talks with other states to ease inter-state bus services

Kolkata, Oct 15 (UNI) The West Bengal Transport Department is in talks with other states to facilitate the smooth operation of long-distance bus services by private operators, state Transport Minister Arjun Singh said on Thursday.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of a new fleet of luxury buses operated by a private operator, Singh said the department was discussing the matter with its counterparts in Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states.
“Our aim is to enable smooth flow of private and government buses to other states of the country,” the minister said.
“We are targeting that buses from West Bengal in good condition operate to every state and there is no hindrance from the administration. To enable this, we are trying to provide facilities of route permits to the private operators. For running inter-state buses, an agreement is to be done with the administration of that state. We are in the process of a reciprocal agreement with Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states. It is in the final stage,” Singh said.
The new fleet of buses, flagged off by the minister from Esplanade on Thursday, will operate on routes connecting Siliguri and Puri. UNI NN NST CDS
