Bengal: Special arrangements made for Higher Secondary examinees in flood-hit Bhutni

Siliguri, Sep 20 (UNI) With floodwaters gradually receding in Bhutni of Manikchak, the district administration has made special arrangements to ensure that students from the flood-affected areas can appear in the ongoing Higher Secondary third-semester examinations without facing further difficulties.
Examination centres for students of three schools in the flood-hit Bhutni area have been shifted to Manikchak College. The examinees have been accommodated at separate shelters in safe locations close to the examination centre. Arrangements have been made for their accommodation, food, drinking water and other essential facilities, besides transport between the shelters and the examination centre.
However, on Saturday evening, a video purportedly recorded by some examinees surfaced on social media, with the students alleging that food had not been provided to them and expressing concern over how they would appear for the examination under such circumstances. The video subsequently went viral.
Following the circulation of the video, arrangements for food and other requirements were made at the shelter. The students later removed the video and, according to local sources, told media persons that it had been recorded before food was supplied and cooking arrangements were completed. The students also reportedly expressed regret over the video after the arrangements were made.
The administration has been coordinating with the district education authorities and other departments to ensure that the examinees remain in a safe and conducive environment during the examination period.
Meanwhile, floodwaters in Bhutni have started receding after the area was inundated following a breach in the Ganga embankment on September 4. Around two lakh people across three areas were affected, with houses, agricultural land and roads inundated. After remaining waterlogged for nearly two weeks, several areas are now gradually returning to normal.
Manikchak MLA Gour Chandra Mondal said water levels had fallen by more than five feet in several parts of Bhutni during the past few days. Efforts are also underway to restore electricity and repair flood-damaged roads.
Free government bus services have also been introduced between Bhutni Bridge, Chowrangi More and the relief camps to facilitate the movement of flood-affected residents.
