Bengal: Special drive to enrol left-out, young voters in Jalpaiguri

Siliguri, Oct 12 (UNI) The Jalpaiguri district administration has launched a special drive to enrol eligible voters whose names are yet to be included in the electoral roll, with a particular focus on first-time and young electors.
The drive is being conducted under the Continuous Updation of Electoral Rolls, in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India issued on 1 October 2026.
According to a press note issued by Aditi Chaudhary, District Election Officer and District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri, any eligible person whose name is not included in the electoral roll can apply for enrolment at any time, subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria and procedure.
The administration aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll.
Special camps will be organised across Jalpaiguri district by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs), in coordination with other election officials. The camps will focus on facilitating enrolment among eligible residents of night shelters, labour colonies and other marginalised communities.
The district administration will also undertake awareness campaigns through educational institutions, local outreach programmes and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities. Regular press briefings and other suitable platforms will be used to inform eligible citizens about the enrolment process.
The initiative aims to ensure that every eligible citizen gets an opportunity to register as a voter and participate in the democratic process.
