Bengal: Three Bajrang Dal activists again on police remand for setting vehicle on fire

Siliguri, June 3 (UNI) The police remand of three Bajrang Dal activists, arrested for allegedly setting fire to a vehicle transporting meat, was on Tuesday extended by three days by a court in this northern West Bengal town.
linked to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have once again been remanded in police custody on charges of setting fire to a vehicle transporting banned meat in the Matigara police station area of Siliguri, West Bengal.
The accused Krishna Saha (25), Amit Kumar Gupta (35) and Mithlesh alias Yogesh Gauhar (29), were produced in the Siliguri court on by the Matigara police after the completion of their earlier remand period.
The police again sought five days' remand from the court while the defendants filed a bail plea. After the hearing, the court granted three days' police remand to all three accused.

The case has been registered under the Matigara Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code along with sections of the BOF Act and the National Highway Act.
On May 31, when the police presented the accused activists in court, a large group of miscreants attacked their houses and shops in their village, Tumbajot.
Seeing the seriousness of the attack, the police arrested seven accused on June 1. After this, on June 2, a Siliguri sub-division bandh was organised by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Despite the tight security arrangements made by the administration, the bandh was said to have been successful.
However, there was sporadic violence at some places, due to which the police arrested several people from there and presented them in the court. UNI XC ARN SSP
