Bhutia's baseless allegations have tarnished AIFF's reputation: Kalyan Chaubey

New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey on Friday described as "baseless" country's soccer legend Bhaichung Bhutia's recent statements targeting him and the Federation and alleged that the remarks have "tarnished" the reputation of the nation's apex governing body of the game.
"As a member of the AIFF Executive committee, Mr Bhaichung Bhutia has access to an appropriate and empowered platform to express his views, raise concerns and contribute constructively towards the development and performence of Indian football in various AIFF Excutive Committee meetings. However, it has been observed that since Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia's defeat in the September 2022 elections, he has consistently and deliberately made baseless allegations and presented a distorted image of the AIFF.
"Such actions not only tarnish the reputation of the Federation but also show Indian football in a negative light on an international platform" Chaubey said in a statement.
A war of words has started between Bhutia and Chaubey as the former recently compared the AIFF to a "circus" and apparently described Chaubey as a "joker".
“Anybody following Indian football knows it’s a circus right now, and obviously if you put a joker in that position, then that is what will happen,” he said. UNI RKM SSP
