Bihar CM honours nine personalities in 'Mati-Purvanchal Mahotsav'

Patna, Sep 19 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary today honoured nine personalities for their notable contributions in different fields at the ninth edition of the ''Mati-Purvanchal Mahotsav'' held at the Urja Auditorium here.
The event, organised by the Mati organisation, celebrated the cultural heritage, traditions, art, literature and social contributions of the Purvanchal region.
Among those honoured with the ''Mati Samman'' were Padma Shri awardee and folk singer Malini Awasthi, former India cricketer Syed Saba Karim, senior managing editor of Aaj Tak Shweta Singh, Canara Bank Managing Director and CEO Brajesh Kumar Singh, former Patna High Court judge Justice Arun Kumar Singh, senior physician Dr Rajiv Ranjan, DeHaat co-founder and CEO Shashank Kumar, and Indian football coach and former vice-captain Madhu Kumari.
Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said Bihar had a rich and glorious history and its cultural diversity was reflected in languages including Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, Bajjika and Angika.
He said Bihar''s soil had produced several personalities who had made significant contributions to the country and the world. Referring to the state''s historical and spiritual legacy, he highlighted its association with Guru Gobind Singh, Lord Mahavira and Lord Buddha.
The Chief Minister also referred to Nalanda''s ancient tradition of education and knowledge, saying the Nalanda University had been one of the world''s major centres of learning.
Choudhary said he viewed Purvanchal in the context of both Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, noting that the two states shared a common cultural heritage and substantial human resources.
He said the two states could play an important role in the country''s development and in achieving the vision of a developed India.
On education, Choudhary said the Bihar government was taking several measures to improve educational infrastructure and opportunities. He said 2,500 assistant professors had been appointed, while modern education facilities and live classes were being developed in 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan model schools.
The government had also launched the ''Bihar Vidya Saathi'' app to provide students with better educational resources, he said.
Choudhary said the Mati festival should serve as a means of taking Bihar''s history, culture and heritage to the younger generation.
He praised the Mati organisation for providing a platform to people from Purvanchal and showcasing their cultural traditions and talent.
The festival featured folk songs, music and cultural performances highlighting the diverse traditions of the region. Malini Awasthi also gave a performance during the event.
The ninth edition of the Purvanchal Mahotsav was inaugurated by BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha.
Saraogi said Purvanchal''s identity was rooted in its soil, folk traditions, languages, art and cultural heritage. He said such events helped connect people with their roots and encouraged artists and cultural traditions.
Sinha described the festival as an initiative to preserve Purvanchal''s cultural heritage and pass its traditions on to the younger generation.
He said preserving culture, traditions and heritage was a collective responsibility.
