Bihar launches Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign across districts

Patna, Sept 17 (UNI) The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign was launched across Bihar today, with district administrations in Gopalganj, Sheohar and Bhagalpur organising awareness programmes, rallies and community activities to promote cleanliness, waste management and public participation.
In Gopalganj, the District Water and Sanitation Committee launched the campaign with a fleet of cleanliness awareness e-rickshaws. MP Dr Alok Kumar Suman, District Magistrate Sameer Saurabh, Deputy Development Commissioner Gaurav Kumar and DRDA Director Rakesh Kumar Choubey were present at the launch.
E-rickshaws from all panchayats have been converted into ‘Swachhata Awareness Chariots’ equipped with audio messages. They will travel through villages across the district to spread awareness about solid waste management, segregation of wet and dry waste, proper disposal of garbage and maintaining clean public spaces.
The Gopalganj campaign will focus on five key areas including cleanliness and sanitation, solid waste management, public awareness and behavioural change, community participation, and Safai Mitra Suraksha Camps. The latter will include health check-ups for sanitation workers and efforts to connect them with welfare schemes.
In Sheohar, a district level launch cum orientation programme was organised to mark the beginning of the fortnight-long campaign. Officials said the programme aims to sustain cleanliness activities, increase public participation and make sanitation a part of everyday life.
The Superintendent of Police called for cleanliness of ponds, tourist sites and statues of prominent personalities, along with improved waste management and greater respect for sanitation workers.
He said a nationwide ‘One Day, One Hour, Together’ voluntary-cleaning drive would be held on October 1. The campaign will conclude on October 2 with special gram sabhas, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree-planting initiative and recognition of outstanding Safai Mitras and sanitation champions.
In Bhagalpur, District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey flagged off a cleanliness awareness rally at the district collectorate under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). Deputy Development Commissioner Ravi Rakesh, Municipal Corporation Mayor Vasundhara Lal, Municipal Commissioner Kislay Kushwaha and other officials participated in the programme.
The rally carried messages on maintaining clean surroundings, proper waste disposal and making cleanliness part of daily life. She said cleanliness drives, voluntary labour, solid and liquid waste management activities, awareness programmes and community participation initiatives would be conducted across blocks and gram panchayats.
She said the campaign seeks to move cleanliness beyond a time-bound programme and encourage sustained public participation and responsible waste-management practices.
