BISA to be developed as Centre of Excellence for climate-friendly agriculture: Bihar DyCM

Patna, June 25 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha today said that the Barlaag Institute of South Asia (BISA) located in Pusa, Samastipur will be developed as a Centre of Excellence for climate-friendly agriculture.
Addressing a meeting related to formulation of a plan for climate friendly agriculture, Sinha said that AI based system should be developed in the field of climate friendly agriculture, so that the effect of diseases and pests on crops can be predicted. Assuring to develop BISA as a center of excellence for climate friendly agriculture, he said that pulses, oilseeds, nutrient-rich crops should be promoted according to the climate of Bihar.
Stressing the need for training of the farmers and their tour to various related places, he said it will help promote the adoption of climate friendly farming. At the same time, special attention should be paid to water and soil conservation in this scheme.
Sinha directed the state Agricultural University and research institutes to work in tandem with the Central Agricultural University in the interest of farmers. He said that special attention should be paid to developing innovation based business models to attract the youth in the field of agriculture.
At the same time, efforts should be made to reduce the cost of farming and double the income of farmers. Natural and organic farming should be promoted under climate friendly agriculture and farmers should be encouraged to adopt it, he said.
