Develop Jagannath Dham as global spiritual hub: Odisha Governor

Bhubaneswar, June 25 (UNI) Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati today stressed the need to develop Jagannath Dham as a global spiritual hub and to promote Odisha’s prominent Buddhist sites — Ratnagiri, Udayagiri, and Lalitgiri — to visitors from Southeast Asia
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the 6th edition of the Odisha Tourism Conclave, organised by the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO), the Governor described tourism as a key driver of economic growth, calling it one of the most vibrant and high-potential sectors of the economy.
He also emphasised tourism’s capacity to generate large-scale direct and indirect employment across multiple sectors.
“Tourism plays a vital role not only in employment generation but also in trade, investment, infrastructure development, and social inclusion,” the Governor said adding that it contributes significantly to the conservation of cultural and natural heritage while advancing sustainable development goals.”
Appreciating the efforts of HRAO in hosting the conclave and supporting the hospitality industry, the Kambhampati said Odisha is home to many regions with unique attractions, making it a rich and exciting destination for tourists.
“From ancient temples and scenic landscapes to vibrant art, culture, and diverse wildlife, Odisha offers something for everyone,” he said, assuring the HRAO of his full support and guidance in transforming the state into a globally admired tourism destination.
He also highlighted significant improvements in tourism-related infrastructure, international flight connectivity, and the development of eco-friendly transport options in recent years.
The Governor further noted Odisha's potential to become a leader in eco-tourism and underscored the importance of building a strong cultural economy by promoting traditional crafts and training youth in hospitality, languages, and tourism management.
The conclave witnessed participation from policymakers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders across the tourism and hospitality sectors.
