BJD launches scathing attack on BJP govt over alleged rape of minor girl

Bhubaneswar, June 25 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) women leaders today launched a scathing attack on the BJP government following the alleged drugging and rape of a minor girl from a minority community by a BJP leader in Berhampur.
Addressing newsmen, senior BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria, former BJD MP Sharmistha Sethi and former State Women's Commission Chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra, alleged that despite the BJP coming to power on the promise of women's safety, the women of the state are now more unsafe than ever.
They said the accused, who operated a nursing home, currently holds the position of District President of the BJP's Workers' Front
The accused BJP leader, Chhuria allegedly lured a minor girl from a minority community to his nursing home under the guise of providing nursing training and employment and then allegedly drugged and raped her at night.
She further alleged that while local police initially attempted to suppress the complaint lodged by the girl's family, their persistence and threat to expose the incident on social media forced the police to register a case and arrest the accused.
The BJD leaders demanded immediate and proper justice for the victim and insisted that the case be handed over to the CBI for a thorough investigation.
They warned the state government to take immediate and appropriate steps to protect women, otherwise the Biju Janata Dal will take to the streets.
