BJD demands arrest of all accused in Karanjia gang rape case

Bhubaneswar, June 26 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the gang rape of a woman under Karanjia police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The party also called for a swift and strict investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and urged authorities to fast-track the case and file a chargesheet at the earliest.
The BJD further demanded comprehensive support for the victim, including proper medical treatment, psychological counselling, and adequate protection.
A delegation of BJD leaders, led by Basanti Hembram, met the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Karanjia today, pressing for urgent and decisive action in connection with the heinous crime that took place on June 25.
According to reports, the victim was allegedly offered a lift by two men on a motorcycle. However, instead of dropping her at her destination, they took her to a secluded location where a third accomplice joined them. The woman was then reportedly gang-raped at a roadside Dhaba.
The visiting BJD delegation expressed deep shock and anguish over the incident, describing it as a barbaric act that not only traumatized the survivor but also severely undermined public trust in the law-and-order system.
“We demand the immediate arrest of all absconding accused and strict action to ensure justice is neither delayed nor denied,” said Basanti Hembram.
She emphasised that ensuring the safety, dignity, and justice for women—especially in tribal-dominated regions like Mayurbhanj—must remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies.
