BJD raises questions over Rs 3.3 crore spent on renovation of Odisha CM’s residences

Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (UNI) The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday questioned the Odisha government’s spending of Rs 3.3 crore on the repair and renovation of two official residences of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, citing information obtained under the RTI Act.
BJD spokesperson and media coordinator Dr Lenin Mahanti said the expenditure was a matter of concern, particularly when the state government had borrowed Rs 1.38 lakh crore in the past two years.
He questioned the government’s reported refusal to provide details of the expenditure on various works, citing security concerns.
“Why is the state government trying to hide this information?” Mahanti asked in a statement. He alleged that the BJP government’s two-and-a-half-year tenure had been marked by a slowdown in development and deterioration in the state’s financial position.
Mahanti also alleged deterioration in law and order, a rise in crimes against women, increasing prices of essential commodities, unemployment and labour migration.
He further alleged that while people were facing various problems, the Chief Minister was spending public money on luxury and indulging in self-promotion.
