BJP alleges political workers joined Rohit Pawar's MPSC protest

Mumbai, Oct 5 (UNI) BJP Maharashtra chief spokesperson Navnath Ban on Monday alleged that the ongoing protest led by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar in Pune over issues concerning MPSC aspirants was a "political event" rather than a students' agitation.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Ban claimed that around 80 per cent of those participating in the protest were political workers brought from outside Pune.
Ban showed videos of vehicles at the protest site and alleged that around 200-250 vehicles, many carrying political party flags and stickers, had arrived from Baramati and other parts of the state.
He also alleged that employees of Rohit Pawar's Baramati Agro and sugar factory were among those present at the protest.
If there is genuine concern for the students, their future should not be used for political purposes, Ban said.
He questioned Pawar's demand for the removal of Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) chairman Vivek Bhimanwar, claiming that the alleged paper leak did not take place during Bhimanwar's tenure.
Six people have been arrested in connection with the case, he said, adding that the government had also transferred the MPSC secretary following demands for the move.
Ban said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had met several delegations of protesting students and held discussions with representatives associated with Pawar's agitation.
He questioned why Pawar was continuing the protest despite these discussions.
On the issue of tribal students who had marched towards Mumbai, Ban alleged that no tribal student had been detained or arrested by police.
He said a delegation of tribal students had met Fadnavis and, after their demands were addressed, had started its return journey towards Nashik.
Ban also alleged that slogans against Shiv Sena MP Omraje Nimbalkar during his visit to the protest site were raised by political workers and not MPSC students.
"If Nimbalkar had come to support the students, why were their demands regarding MPSC not raised before him?" Ban asked.
He alleged that the presence of political workers at the protest and the slogans against Nimbalkar showed that the agitation was being used for political purposes. UNI SP SAS
