BJP-led central govt trying to overhaul education sector, distort history: Kerala CM

Kozhikode, June 30 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan today criticised the BJP and RSS while addressing a public meeting organised by the Students Federation of India (SFI) to mark the valedictory function of the SFI's 18th national conference.
Pinarayi Vijayan stated that BJP is a political party endorsed by the RSS leadership and alleged that the Central government is attempting to overhaul the entire education sector. He accused the RSS of having played no role in India's freedom struggle and claimed that its leader, Savarkar, betrayed the cause.
"The freedom movement saw united efforts across caste, religion and language. If that history is told truthfully, the BJP will be discredited. That is why, the BJP led Central government is trying to distort history by glorifying certain figures and even altering the portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in textbooks," he said.
He emphasised that students organisations like SFI have a major responsibility to resist these efforts and protect historical truth.
Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that the BJP-led Central government is aggressively implementing policies originally proposed by the Congress party. He criticised India's current foreign policy stance, saying "India has lost its anti-imperialist identity, and the world no longer looks at us with the same respect."
Referring to the recent UN General Assembly vote, he pointed out that while most countries condemned Israel's aggression against Palestine, India did not take a stand. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi for aligning with Israel due to a pro-American bias, warning that this could have serious consequences for India .
Before the public meeting, a massive rally led by the newly-elected SFI national President Adarsh M Saji of Kerala and General Secretary Srijan Bhattachary of West Bengal was carried out from Malabar Christian College ground to Kozhikode beach, as part of the concluding four-day National conference in Kozhikode.
