BJP protests near AAP office over sanitation worker's suicide

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Demanding dismissal of AAP Municipal Councillor Vijay Kumar in connection with a sanitation worker's suicide, the Delhi BJP workers intensified their protest on Sunday, staging a strong demonstration near the AAP office.
This follows a strong protest by Trilokpuri residents and BJP workers outside the area councillor’s office, where BJP councillors and others demanded Vijay Kumar’s resignation and expulsion from the party.
On Sunday, senior party leaders, including MP Yogendra Chandolia, state unit vice-president Rajesh Bhatia and others, joined the protest near the AAP office in New Delhi, seeking justice for deceased sanitation worker Deepak. His wife, Sangeeta, and their daughter were also present at the protest, demanding justice for the deceased.
The protestors marched towards the AAP office, while police tried to stop them with barricades, and later protestors, including the MP, MLAs Ravindra Negi, Ravikant and Councilor Priyanka Gautam, were taken to the Police Station, where they were later released after an hour with a warning.
Meanwhile, BJP workers, coming from the different morchas, had joined the protest at Windsor Place, raising slogans against Municipal Councillor Vijay Kumar, whom they accused of forcing MCD sanitation worker Deepak to take his own life.
During his address at the protest, Chandolia posed two direct questions to the Aam Aadmi Party’s top leadership, asking why Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Kuldeep Kumar had remained silent despite serious allegations against AAP councillor Vijay Kumar of financially harassing an MCD sanitation worker and allegedly driving him to suicide.
Secondly, he asked as to when the Aam Aadmi Party will dismiss its councillor Vijay Kumar from the party, who is being accused in the case of sanitation worker Deepak's suicide.
Chandolia also said that any form of injustice, exploitation or financial harassment of sanitation workers will not be tolerated at any cost.
All the senior leaders and the party workers present in the protest said that there are serious allegations that have come up in Deepak's case, and therefore it should be impartially investigated and, if the allegations are found to be true, strict action should be ensured against those responsible.
They claimed that there has always been a difference between what the AAP chief says and what his actions follow, further alleging that while the party, on one hand, speaks about the interests of Dalits, on the other hand, serious questions are being raised regarding the conduct of its leaders and elected representatives at the ground level.
