BJP’s Laxman accuses Congress of double standards on voter revision

Hyderabad, Oct 12 (UNI) BJP Parliamentary Board member and Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman on Monday accused the Congress and INDIA bloc of targeting the Election Commission and judiciary over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls after failing to accept election results.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, he alleged that Congress and AAP leaders had previously demanded the removal of bogus votes in several states but were now opposing the voter revision process for political reasons.
He cited statements by leaders including Kamal Nath, Shaktisinh Gohil and Arvind Kejriwal on alleged fraudulent entries in electoral rolls.
Laxman defended the revision exercise, claiming that it involved officials across the country and that 29 lakh bogus votes had been removed through Form-7 following requests from political parties.
He accused the opposition of making unsubstantiated allegations of vote theft and criticised its proposed protests near the Supreme Court, describing them as pressure tactics against the judiciary.
He also cited several historical controversies involving the Congress and electoral processes, including the Emergency, alleged election irregularities and appointments of former election commissioners to political positions, to question the party’s commitment to electoral transparency.
Targeting Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress leaders for participating in protests in Delhi, Laxman alleged that they were neglecting farmers’ problems, including rainfall deficits, irrigation shortages and concerns over electricity supply.
He challenged the Congress leadership to an open debate on the electoral roll revision process, asserting that the BJP was committed to transparent elections and that opposition parties should respect constitutional institutions.
