Blackout exercise in Amritsar tomorrow from 8 pm to 8:30 pm: Sarin

Amritsar, May 30 (UNI) Under Operation Shield, a blackout exercise will be conducted in Amritsar for half an hour from 8 pm to 8:30 pm on Saturday.
Giving the information, Additional Deputy Commissioner Urban Development Amit Sarin said the inner areas of Amritsar i.e. Walled City, Amritsar Airport and villages have been exempted from the blackout exercise. This means that the lights will not be switched off in these places.
"This is just a practice for how we all have to cooperate during a crisis, so there is no need to panic, only your cooperation will be needed," he said.
He appealed to the city residents to turn off all the lights when the siren sounds at 8 o'clock.
,
"If you have to turn on the lights inside the house, then make thick curtains or such an arrangement that the light does not go out through the windows,: he said.
He also advised the residents to practice sitting in the middle of ground floor rooms where there is no glass window nearby. The people should also desist from roaming on the roof, in the street or in an open space outside during a blackout.
He also asked commuters to turn off the lights of their vehicles and stand on the side of the road.
He said prior to the blackout, a mock drill will also be conducted by the Civil Defence at Dussehra Ground located on Ranjit Avenue from 6 to 7 pm. UNI GS SSP
