BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week being observed in over 1.32 lakh UP council schools from Nov 1 to 7

Lucknow, Nov 4 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government is observing BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week from November 1 to 7 in over 1.32 lakh council schools across the state to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
The week-long programme aims to sensitise more than 1.42 crore students about sustainable living, resource conservation and their role in environmental protection, officials said.
Based on the seven themes of Mission LiFE, the initiative seeks to encourage students to become environmentally responsible citizens and spread awareness about sustainable practices in their families and communities.
Eco-Clubs are playing a key role in organising the activities. Information about the programme and related educational and communication materials are available on the designated portal.
A different theme has been taken up each day during the week. Activities on healthy lifestyles were organised on November 1, followed by energy conservation on November 2 and water conservation on November 3.
On November 4, students participated in activities highlighting the importance of sustainable food systems. The programme will focus on eliminating single-use plastic on November 5, reducing e-waste on November 6 and minimising waste on November 7.
Schools have been encouraged to organise Mission LiFE pledges, poster-making competitions, creative activities, workshops and awareness campaigns as part of the initiative.
Through the participation of students and teachers, the programme is promoting awareness about energy and water conservation, alternatives to plastic, waste segregation and reuse. Students are also being encouraged to practise these habits at home and in their neighbourhoods.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education Sandeep Singh said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was committed to providing quality education while developing environmentally responsible citizens.
"Through the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, students are being encouraged to adopt practices such as conserving energy and water, reducing plastic use and managing waste. These habits developed at an early age will lay a strong foundation for environmental protection in the future," he said.
Director General, School Education, Monica Rani said activities based on the seven themes of Mission LiFE were being organised in council schools with the active participation of Eco-Clubs and students.
The initiative aims to make environmentally friendly behaviour part of everyday life and encourage students to take the message of sustainable living to their families and communities, she added.
