Chaos grips patients after gas leaks in medical college

Shahjahanpur (UP), May 25 (UNI) Chaos gripped the patients and their attendants after gas made of formalin chemical leaked in Government Medical College of Shahjahanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, official sources said here.
Sources said that the patients and their attendants, who complained of having difficulty in breathing and burning sensation in the eyes, came out of the ward. The fire brigade team reduced the effect of the gas by spraying special water, they said.

District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh said that heavy smoke emitted from the operation theatre of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil Government Medical College of Shahjahanpur, after which the patients and their attendants started having irritation in the eyes and difficulty in breathing. "The attendants and the patients came out of the wards," he said.
He said that formalin chemical is used in very small quantities to sterilise the instruments of operation theatre and the ward. "It seems that one of the bottles fell on the floor due to which the chemical spread in the ward after coming in contact with AC and fans. There has been no loss of life due to this leakage," he said.
The CM said that the police team and fire brigade team have brought the situation under control by spraying special water on the spot. "The condition of the medical college has become normal. Orders have been given to investigate the entire matter," he said.
Medical college principal Rajesh Kumar said that Ramnaresh of Chakanhau village was a TB patient, whose lungs were completely damaged. "His condition was very critical and he was on oxygen. Due to which he died. The District Magistrate has said to get an investigation done regarding the death of the patient," he said.
