Child help desks launched at all police stations in Bihar on Gandhi Jayanti

Patna, Oct 2 (UNI) Child help desks or child corners were initiated at all 1,373 police stations across Bihar on Friday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Official sources said here that the initiative has been undertaken in accordance with Section 8(5) of the Bihar Police Act, 2007, and the guidelines issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). Established with the guiding principle of "Child safety, our priority", the help desks are aimed at providing children visiting police stations for assistance or in connection with any case with a safe, sensitive and child-friendly environment where they can speak without fear or hesitation.
The child help desks have been set up at locations within police station premises that are clearly separate from the lock-up and will function under the Child Welfare Police Officer (CWPO).
Mobile numbers of the concerned officers have been prominently displayed on flex boards and signboards at the desks. The designated officers will remain active and available at all times and immediate appropriate action will be ensured whenever a child or their parent or family member contacts them for help.
Sources said that a qualified woman police personnel will also be deputed at each child corner to interact with girls seeking assistance and help address their concerns.
Complaints received through the child help desks will be dealt with within a stipulated timeframe, with complete records of the action taken being maintained.
Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), the Special Crime-cum-in-charge officers of the Special Juvenile Police Units and other senior officers will regularly monitor the registers maintained at the desks and review the functioning of the Child Welfare Police Officers, the sources said.
