Clear bottlenecks, curb water theft: Haryana minister pushes irrigation works in two districts

Chandigarh, Oct 21(UNI) Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry on Wednesday directed officials to clear pending approvals and resolve land alignment and encroachment issues delaying irrigation projects in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri, while pressing for action against water theft.
Reviewing irrigation problems and development works across five Assembly constituencies, Choudhry asked officials to prioritise farmers’ complaints and ensure approved and ongoing projects meet their deadlines.
“Pending clearances and other issues should be resolved promptly so that development works do not face unnecessary delays,” she said.
The meeting with officials of the LWS and YWS circles, Bhiwani, examined forest clearances, land-related obstacles and measures to prevent unauthorised diversion of water.
Choudhry reviewed pending issues, ongoing projects and proposed works in Loharu, Bhiwani, Tosham, Bawani Khera and Badhra. She directed officials to strengthen coordination and regularly monitor implementation to prevent further delays.
Flood protection and maintenance works undertaken during the past three years also came under review. The minister called for better planning to complete flood safeguards on time and maintain irrigation infrastructure effectively.
“Strengthening the irrigation system, ensuring better management of water resources and relieving farmers of irrigation-related problems are among the government’s priorities,” she said. UNI KK/NB CDS
