Ritu Barala beating case: Congress calls off three-day dharna in Jaipur Police Commissionerate HQ

Jaipur, Oct 21 (UNI) The opposition Congress on Wednesday ended its indefinite dharna in the Jaipur Police Commissionerate office being held since October 19, to demand filing zero number FIR against Delhi Police over the beating of NSUI-Congress activist Ritu Barala during the party's agitation in Delhi in October 13.
The grand old party has called off the stir after a dialogue between Congress leaders including the party state president Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Tika Ram Jully and the Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal held at the dharna site in Room No. : 9 in the Police Commissionarate.
In the talks, Commissioner Mittal expressed the police's inability in filing zero FIR in the case, however, accepted the opposition party's demand of giving them in writing the cops' decision of denial to the demand.
The Commissioner has conveyed in writing the police's inability in registering the FIR, and Dotasra and Jully called off the dharna saying "Now, we shall get justice for the daughter of Rajasthan (Ritu Barala) in the court."

Dotasra maintained "We have just been seeking justice for Jaipur-Rajasthan's beti, we have no issue against the Jaipur Police. Our stance from the beginning was either lodge the zero FIR as per the BNS provisions, or record for us in writing police's refusal'.
Justifying the police's position and stance, Commissioner Mittal said "Since, the Delhi Police had already registered Barala's FIR at the Connaught Place police station, filing of a second FIR in Rajasthan would not be a legitimate move. We have already verified with Delhi Police the status of her report that she had submitted there".
In the three-day agitation, while the dharna under the leadership of Dotasra was held in the Commissionerate complex, the cadres of the party and NSUI held a demonstration outside the premises. Most of the senior leaders including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot participated in the sit-in.
The demonstration outside the commissionerate yesterday had witnessed repeated ugly face-offs between the cops and the protesters that led to mild lathi charges thrice.
The police used batons for the third time around midnight last night that left some youths injured.
Meanwhile, Dotasra himself also suffered an ankle injury (sprain) in an accidental fall on the floor this morning. Doctor was summoned who applied crepe bandage and prescribed some medicines.
