CM Khandu unveils twin visions to celebrate Arunachal’s heritage

Itanagar, June 27 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced two landmark heritage initiatives that promise to transform Mukto and Chakzam in Tawang district into vibrant centres of cultural pride, learning, and sustainable development.
In Mukto, a Multipurpose Cultural Learning Centre is coming up—envisioned as a dynamic space that will preserve and promote Arunachal Pradesh’s spiritual and artistic traditions. The Centre’s rooftop will be crowned with a replica of the sacred Mahabodhi Temple, flanked by three majestic standing stupas symbolizing the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Surrounding the structure will be faithful recreations of revered temples and monasteries, creating a sacred and immersive environment, Khandu said.
“This Centre will not only preserve our timeless traditions but also serve as a living classroom for art, faith, and indigenous knowledge,” said the Chief Minister. “It will make Mukto a beacon of learning and pride for our people.”
Meanwhile, the legendary Chakzam Bridge, constructed 600 years ago by the great Tibetan engineer and spiritual master Thangtong Gyalpo, is set for a major revival. A comprehensive master plan is being prepared to preserve, restore, and celebrate this architectural marvel.
The Chakzam initiative aims to preserve and restore the historic iron-chain suspension bridge, celebrate Monpa culture, promote eco-tourism, and boost local livelihoods.
“From cultural revival to community-led tourism, the vision is to make Chakzam a living bridge between the past and the future,” CM Khandu noted.
