CM Sukhu participates in massive Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan in Una

Punkaj Bhaartiya
Una, Sep 16 (UNI) Nearly 40,000 men, women and children thronged the town of Una to take part in the "Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan" led by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to spread the message of a clean and safe Himachal, while raising awareness about the dangers of 'chitta'.
A buzz of activity began at the Indira Sports Stadium early Wednesday morning, with students and young people from schools and colleges across the district arriving from their respective institutions.
A large number of people also joined the walkathon. Some were busy taking photos with friends, others held placards bearing "anti-drug messages", while groups of youth were seen dancing to the music. In no time, the stadium was brimming with youthful energy, and with nearly 40,000 participants present, Una demonstrated its united stand against drug abuse.
Amidst such a massive turnout, the arrangements made by the district administration and police were impeccable. Provisions were made for everything from traffic and crowd management to drinking water and refreshments for the participants. Students and citizens arriving from far-flung areas faced no inconvenience during the event.
From morning onwards, performances by the police band 'Harmony of the Pines' added vibrancy to the atmosphere and the air was filled with the sounds of applause and slogans raised against drug abuse.
There was immense excitement among the children and youth to walk alongside the CM, and wherever the CM paused, crowds would gather to get a photograph with him. Many young people were even seen taking selfies while walking alongside.
The CM walked effortlessly amidst this youthful energy, interacting with children and young people throughout the route.
During the Jan Andolan, the CM administered a pledge to the youth regarding the 'Anti-Chitta' (anti-synthetic drug) campaign and environmental conservation, while conveying the message of creating a 'Chitta-free' Himachal.
Notably, the Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan (or Chitta-Virodh Abhiyan) is a high-profile public movement and state-wide anti-drug campaign launched in Himachal Pradesh. Initiated on November 15, 2025, by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the movement explicitly targets the eradication of "chitta" (a highly addictive, adulterated form of synthetic heroin) that has increasingly threatened the state's youth.
Meanwhile, slogans and songs echoed continuously as thousands of footsteps moved from the grounds onto the streets. Describing the massive turnout in Una as historic, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari stated that this level of public participation marked a record, making it the largest 'Anti-Chitta' Jan Andolan held in the state so far.
Attended by approximately 40,000 people, the Jan Andolan created a memorable scene for Una and a single message resonated along the entire route: "A strike against Chitta—Himachal is ready."
