Conditions favourable for further monsoon withdrawal from Punjab, Haryana in 2-3 days: IMD

Panchkula, Oct 1 (UNI) Conditions are likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the remaining parts of Punjab and Haryana during the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The IMD's seven-day forecast also indicates dry weather across Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi from October 1 to October 7.
According to the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued at 8.34 a.m. on October 1, the current line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon passes through 32.5 degrees north/72.5 degrees east, Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa and Naliya, and extends to 23 degrees north/67.8 degrees east.
“Conditions are likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh,” the IMD said.
The weather office said conditions were also likely to become favourable for withdrawal from most parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, the entire Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra during the next two to three days.
Despite the forecast of dry weather in Haryana, the IMD said a western disturbance persists as a cyclonic circulation over north Haryana and its neighbourhood, extending between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level.
An associated trough in the upper tropospheric westerlies has its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level and runs roughly along longitude 75 degrees east to the north of latitude 26 degrees north, it said.
The IMD's seven-day rainfall forecast categorises Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh as dry on each day from October 1 to October 7. West and East Rajasthan are also forecast to remain dry throughout the period.
Temperatures in Punjab and Haryana were largely close to normal. The IMD said minimum temperatures on September 30 were near normal at many places over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and at most places over Punjab.
Maximum temperatures were also near normal at many places over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and at most places over Punjab.
While northwest India is expected to remain largely dry, parts of southern and northeastern India are likely to receive heavy rain.
The IMD forecast isolated heavy rainfall on October 1 over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura.
The weather office has also forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Kerala and Mahe from October 1 to 6, while rainfall of varying intensity is expected over several parts of southern, eastern, western and northeastern India during the period.
