EOW chargesheets Pulwama man for allegedly using forged J&K LG letterhead, signature

Srinagar, Oct 1 (UNI) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident for allegedly using a forged letterhead and signature of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in an attempt to unlawfully influence the functioning of the police administration, officials said on Thursday.
The chargesheet in an FIR registered this year was filed before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Saqlain Mushtaq Dar a resident of Deeri, Pulwama.
According to the Crime Branch, Dar allegedly prepared a forged communication addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, falsely portraying it as having been issued by the Lieutenant Governor.
The communication was prepared on counterfeit official letterhead and carried a forged signature, the agency said.
Investigators alleged that the forged communication was intended to unlawfully influence the functioning of the Anantnag District Police Administration.
The EOW said the evidence collected during the investigation substantiated the allegations and established offences under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation has been concluded as proved and the chargesheet presented before the court for judicial determination, the Crime Branch said.
