Conditions favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala next 4-5 days

Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 (UNI) The conditions are likely to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during next 4-5 days.
The conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some more parts ofSouth Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu; some moreparts South & Central Bay of Bengal, Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period.
An upperair cyclonic circulation is likely to form over eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast around 21st May.
Under its influence, a lowpressure area is likely to form over the same region around 22nd May. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwards and intensify further, a MeT release said.
Yesterday's upper air cyclonic circulaion over westcentral & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal now lies over westcentral Bay of Bengaladjoining south Andhra Pradesh & north Tamil Nadu and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over South Interior Karnataka & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
The trough from southeast Bay of Bengal to North Interior Karnataka across the above cyclonic circulationover westcentral Bay & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema between 1.5 & 5.8 km abovemean sea level tilting southwestwards with height has become less marked.
Rain occurred at most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep on Tuesday. Extremely heavy rainfall reports in cm are: Kunnamkulam (Thrissur district) 22. Heavy to very heavy rainfall reports in cm are: AMS Kannur (Kannur district) 18, Thalassery (Kannur district) & Kannur Airport AWS 17 each, Irinjalakuda & Enamakkal (both in Thrissur district) 16 each, Munakkal AWS (Thrissur district) 15, Kannur13, Ponnani (Malappuram district) & Peringalkuthu AWS (Thrissur district) 12 each, Kodungallur (Thrissur district), Quilandi&UrumiAWS (both in Kozhikode district) 11 each.
Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (12cm to 20cm in 24 hours) with extremely heavy rainfall ( > 20cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on May 20.
Heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated placesover Kerala on May 21st, 23rd, 24th & 25th May and Heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated placesover Kerala on 22nd & 26thnMay 2025 and over Lakshadweep on 23rd & 24th May 2025.
