Cong sting operation fallout to intensify after Council polls: Karnataka BJP

Hubballi, Oct 18 (UNI) Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Sunday alleged that the reported sting operation had raised questions about political manoeuvring within the ruling Congress and predicted that the party's internal differences over leadership would become more pronounced after the October 23 Legislative Council elections.
Questioning who was behind the operation, whom it sought to target and what its objective was, Vijayendra claimed that developments within the Congress pointed to deepening differences among senior leaders, including alleged attempts to target former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The political fallout would become clearer in the coming days, he told reporters here, alleging a lack of mutual trust within the ruling party. He reiterated his earlier claim that Siddaramaiah could face pressure to step down as Chief Minister, adding that subsequent developments had brought the leadership question into sharper focus.
On the Legislative Council elections, Vijayendra expressed confidence that the BJP-JD(S) alliance would win all four seats, claiming that leaders and workers were campaigning in coordination.
He said the NDA was campaigning for SV Sankanur in the West Graduates' constituency, KM Suresh in the South East Graduates' constituency, Shashil G Namoshi in the North East Teachers' constituency and AP Ranganath in the Bengaluru Teachers' constituency.
Turning to agrarian distress, Vijayendra questioned whether the state government's proposed compensation of ₹2,500 to drought-hit farmer families was adequate, urging it to provide more effective assistance.
He accused the Congress government of shifting responsibility for sugarcane growers' problems to the Centre, banks and sugar factories instead of taking direct measures to protect farmers.
While acknowledging the Centre's initiatives, including the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) mechanism and ethanol policy, he said delays in sugarcane payments and other longstanding problems required a permanent solution.
Vijayendra urged the state government to consider fixing a State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane, citing additional support provided by states such as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
He said union Minister Pralhad Joshi had taken up the issue and a committee was examining the problems with a view to finding solutions after Dasara.
Vijayendra also demanded an impartial investigation into alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment irregularities, insisting that action should be taken against those responsible irrespective of the government under whose tenure the alleged wrongdoing occurred.
Scrapping the commission would not solve the problem, he said, stressing the need to restore transparency and public confidence in recruitment.
Delays in examinations, interviews and results had left aspirants uncertain about their future, he said, urging the government to expedite recruitment and disclose how many vacancies had been filled against its pre-election promise to fill around 2.5 lakh vacant government posts.
He also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the party's electoral setbacks, urging him to introspect rather than question constitutional institutions. The Congress should examine why it was losing public confidence, Vijayendra said, citing the NDA's third consecutive term at the Centre as evidence of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
