Congress attacks Centre over inflation, says rising prices hitting every household kitchen

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI): Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over rising inflation, saying the pain of soaring prices was no longer confined to economic statistics but was being felt directly in the kitchens of poor and middle-class families.
Ramesh said the household kitchen budget has increased by up to 25 per cent over the past three months amid the festive season, making it increasingly difficult for families with limited incomes to manage their expenses.
Citing the experience of a homemaker, he said that managing a household on a monthly income of Rs 35,000 had become extremely difficult.
He questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an understanding of how families with limited incomes were coping with rising prices and managing their household budgets.
The Congress leader claimed that tur dal had risen from Rs 105 to Rs 140-150 per kg, moong from Rs 95 to Rs 120, rice from Rs 42-45 to Rs 53-55, and mustard oil from Rs 165 to Rs 190 per litre.
Ramesh said government data showed food inflation at 5.95 per cent in August, while onion prices rose 48.27 per cent, ginger 73.82 per cent and garlic 43.60 per cent.
He further claimed that rising household expenses were eating into savings and pushing families deeper into debt.
“When will the people of the country get relief from this back-breaking inflation?” Ramesh asked.UNI XC AAB
