Congress breached sanctity of constitution for vested interests: Rajasthan CM Sharma

Jodhpur, June 26 (UNI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma today iterated that the opposition Congress has not shown respect either for the constitution or for Baba Sahib Bhimrao Ambedkar.
The grand old party had breached the sanctity as and when it suited its political interests.
Addressing a huge public function at the Marwar International Center here to observe the "Samvidhan Hatya Divas" on the 50th anniversary of the imposition of the Emergency-, Sharma said "Contrary to this, the BJP (and its regimes) have always placed in high esteem the constitution and accorded full honour to the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee Baba Sahib Ambedkar.
"Even today, along with you all (in the audience) and the cadres of the ruling BJP, I want to solemnly take pledge for doing a pro - active role for defending the constitution and honour it's tenets", the Chief Minister resolved.
Likewise, the leadership of the BJP and its governments have always ensured Baba Sahib was given his due (respect and honour), he quipped.
It was the BJP-led government in 1990 that conferred posthumously, the Bharat Ratna upon Dr Ambedkar. It again was the BJP under whose regime Ambedkar Panch Trirths were evolved and November 26 was declared as Constitution Day to be celebrated every year, CM Sharma said.
Ridiculing the Congress' ongoing campaign of "Samvidhan Bachao (defend the constitution) rallies, he said "those who did not bother for honour and sanctity of the constitution and its creator Dr Ambedkar, have no moral right to raise such narrative".
"It is this party (Congress) whose top leader of that period (the then PM) Indira Gandhi had violated the constitution in 1975 merely to save her own Chair(& government). Was imposing emergency in the country proper step in any way?" Sharma wondered.
Continuing to flay the Congress, he said the party and its leaders are in the habit of invoking threat perception in respect of the sanctity and supremacy of the constitution, as and when they do find themselves or the members of the Gandhi family in trouble.
During his one-day trip to Jodhpur, the Chief Minister attended several programmes, including the Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur. UNI XC SSP
