Congress claims over 15,000 workers from Jharkhand to attend Delhi rally

Ranchi, Oct 31 (UNI) More than 15,000 Congress workers from Jharkhand are expected to participate in the party's 'Loktantra Bachao' rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, where over 10 lakh participants are projected to gather from across the country.
Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh said preparations for the rally had been completed and party workers from all districts of the state were reaching Delhi to participate in the programme.
He described the rally as a movement to protect the Constitution, democratic values and people's right to vote.
He alleged that the impartiality of the Election Commission had come under question and that attempts were being made to weaken citizens' voting rights.
Kamlesh said the Congress would continue its agitation until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned and addressed the concerns being raised over the country's democratic system.
"The Congress will not allow democracy to be undermined and will continue its struggle to protect the Constitution, both on the streets and in Parliament," he said.
The state Congress president said the participation of workers from Jharkhand reflected their commitment to safeguarding democratic institutions and constitutional rights.
He claimed that the rally would send a strong message against any attempt to weaken the country's democratic framework.
Invoking the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and B R Ambedkar, Kamlesh said the Congress was committed to protecting the country's unity, integrity and constitutional values.
He said the struggle was not limited to any political party but concerned the rights and future of every citizen.
The Congress has been demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and has linked its agitation to concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and the protection of voting rights.
