Congress demands special session of Bihar Assembly to discuss law and order after death of rape victim

Patna, June 4 (UNI) Congress on Wednesday demanded Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan

to use his authority under article 175 of the constitution for convening a special session of state assembly to discuss law and order situation after death of a minor dalit girl after her rape due to negligence and delay in treatment.

A delegation of Congress leaders led by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) Rajesh Ram called on Governor Khan and handed over a memorandum to him seeking his intervention to prevail on Nitish Kumar government for providing justice to family members of rape victim.

They also demanded from the Governor to use his authority under article 175 of the constitution to convene special session of Bihar Assembly to discuss poor law and order situation in the state.

"A nine year old girl of dalit community was raped and also attacked with sharp edged weapons by culprits causing serious injuries on 20 spots of her body," Ram said adding that incident had occurred at Kurhni in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar on May 26. Rape victim was neither treated properly in Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur nor in Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna which led to her death on May one."

Rajesh Ram said adding that it was perfect example of callousness and negligence on part of State Health department and complete failure of Nitish Kumar Government in providing justice to dalit community.

In such a scenario, it was important for Governor to exercise his right and convene special session

of assembly so that serious issue of collapsed law and order could be discussed in temple of democracy, he added.

Congress leader said that family members of rape victim should be given financial assistance as compensation to them. proper arrangements for education of two brothers of the deceased should also be made for their quality education, he demanded.

"Culprits involved in heinous crime should be slapped stringent punishment after proper investigation of the case " he stressed.

There was an urgent need for state government to take all measures to improve the condition of dalit community in Bihar, he added.
