T’gana Dy CM Bhatti sets 140 million units daily thermal power generation target

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has directed officials to increase daily thermal power generation to 140 million units to meet rising electricity demand during the upcoming Rabi and summer seasons, amid concerns over reduced hydel generation due to El Niño.
At a review meeting with senior Energy Department officials at the Secretariat on Thursday, he stressed the need to prevent power shortages and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to agricultural and domestic consumers.
Officials said average daily thermal generation had reached 90.97 million units in the current financial year, registering a 19% increase over the previous year. Generation touched 118 million units on October 16. Bhatti directed officials to operate all thermal power units at maximum capacity and improve their plant load factor.
He said alternative coal supplies for two units at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant had been arranged through Coal India Limited from November. Four 800-MW units are operational, while the fifth unit was synchronised with the grid on October 20, with work underway to commence full commercial operations.
The Deputy Chief Minister also directed officials to prepare a One-Time Settlement scheme for pending electricity dues of closed industries. He asked power distribution companies to coordinate with the industries concerned and instructed Finance Department officials to expedite recovery of dues owed to Singareni Collieries, GENCO, TRANSCO and other power sector organisations.
He called for coordination among departments to ensure an adequate power supply and meet the State’s growing electricity requirements, according to an official statement.
