Congress observes Black Day in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 8 (UNI) The Congress in Tripura observed a 'Black Day' on Thursday, calling for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and contending that democratic freedoms were being compromised throughout the nation.
Attired in black and displaying black insignia, Congress workers and supporters, led by PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, took out a protest procession and staged a demonstration in Agartala.
Speaking on the occasion, Barman said the 'Black Day' was observed to protest the police action against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and INDIA bloc leaders and parliamentarians during their demonstration the previous day.
"We have mobilized today to oppose the severe mistreatment and excessive police force against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Kharge, and INDIA bloc leaders," he said.
'Gynaesh has to go' was the rallyign cry in the protest and Barman said similar protects were held across the state.
