Congress rejigs UP, Punjab units; Aradhana Misra Mona, Pargat Singh get State chief posts

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) The Congress today carried out a major organisational reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, appointing senior leaders Aradhana Misra alias Mona and Pargat Singh as presidents of the party’s state units with immediate effect, as the organisation moves to strengthen its state-level machinery ahead of the political contests.
The appointments were announced by Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal through separate press releases issued by the All India Congress Committee, bringing a change of leadership in two politically significant states.
In Uttar Pradesh, Aradhana Misra Mona, a senior Congress leader and legislator, has been appointed president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, while Imran Masood has been named working president. Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad have been appointed senior vice presidents of the state unit.
Announcing the appointments, Venugopal said, “Hon'ble Congress President has appointed the President, Working President and Senior Vice Presidents of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, as follows, with immediate effect.”
The Congress also placed on record its appreciation for the contribution of outgoing Uttar Pradesh PCC president Ajay Rai, who headed the state organisation during a politically crucial period.
Alongside the organisational changes, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the appointment of Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Uttar Pradesh, signalling a broader restructuring of the party’s political and legislative leadership in the state.
The changes in Uttar Pradesh come as the Congress seeks to reinforce its organisational network in the country’s most populous state, where its electoral strength and ground-level presence have been a continuing focus of the party’s organisational strategy. The new leadership is expected to work on strengthening the state unit and expanding its political and organisational activities at the grassroots.
In Punjab, the Congress appointed former state minister and senior leader Pargat Singh as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.
Pargat Singh succeeds Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who formally submitted his resignation as Punjab Congress president to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi earlier on Friday. The party expressed its appreciation for Warring’s contribution during his tenure.
“The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC President, Shri Amarinder Singh Raja Warring,” Venugopal said in the appointment order.
The Congress, however, decided to retain continuity in several existing organisational arrangements in Punjab, clarifying that the working presidents as well as chairpersons and co-chairpersons of various election-related committees would continue in their present positions.
Pargat Singh’s appointment comes as the Congress reorganises its state leadership while retaining the existing framework of election-related committees. The move follows Warring’s resignation and marks the beginning of a new phase for the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
The simultaneous changes in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab reflect a wider organisational exercise by the Congress, with the party combining changes in state leadership with continuity in established structures.
The appointments of Aradhana Misra Mona and Pargat Singh are expected to give the two state units new leadership as the Congress prepares for the political battles ahead. UNI SKA SS
