Delhi Traffic Police targets violations by buses, conducts special drive to ensure road safety

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Stepping up its efforts against traffic violations and to ensure safety on roads, the Delhi Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive across the national capital on Thursday, and as a result a total of 154 buses had been fined for different violations.
Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, (Traffic Zone-ll), said on Friday that focused enforcement action was taken against traffic violations committed by buses, with more emphasis on dangerous and unauthorised driving practices that pose a serious risk to the safety of other road users and contribute to road accidents and traffic congestion.
As part of the enforcement action, the official informed that apart from issuing fines, two buses were impounded, sending out a clear message that problematic traffic behaviour will not be tolerated. .
The enforcement drive was carried out by traffic personnel across various traffic circles and major roads in Delhi, while the cops appealed to the public that all the road users must strictly follow traffic rules, drive responsibly, and ensure that their vehicles comply with the safety and regulatory requirements. .
Meanwhile, traffic police have been taking up different initiatives, wherein they have been educating the road users, and drivers regarding sensible road behaviour and that safe driving and good road manners must be a priority.
Recently, the traffic cops had also taken up a drive to promote the usage of helmets by the two wheeler riders, emphasizing on the safety factor that a helmet provides.
Earlier, in the month of August, Delhi LG, Taranjit Singh Sandhu had reviewed functioning of the Delhi Police’s Traffic Unit, and discussed in detail about the national capital’s traffic situation during the interaction with the senior officers concerned. Issues pertaining to traffic congestion, road safety and measures to mitigate the related problems were discussed in detail during the meeting.
Sandhu had directed the traffic police to work in close coordination with all agencies concerned to ensure smoother traffic movement, stricter enforcement of road discipline and proactive management of congestion hotspots.
