CPI demands permanent solution to flood problems of Bihar

Patna, June 6 (UNI) Suspecting massive administrative loot of funds in the name of flood in Bihar, the Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded the Centre find a permanent solution to the annual menace, saying the state can progress and fetch major investments only after effective solution to the problem.
CPI state secretary Ramnaresh Pandey told media on Friday that 22 districts of the state face the tragedy of floods every year. Crops worth crores of rupees get damaged and hundreds of people lose their lives. During the last 20 years of Nitish Kumar's tenure, more than 2,500 people died due to floods, he said.
Even after such a huge loss, the Modi government has yet not announced any project for a permanent solution to the problem.
Suggesting construction of multipurpose high dams on rivers Kosi, Kamla and Bagmati in Nepal for permanent solution to the flood problem of Bihar, the CPI leader said that being associated with external affairs, it is a matter of the Central Government. But the Modi government never took seriously the flood problem of Bihar.
He said that the Patna High Court had also passed an order for a permanent solution to the flood problem, but the Centre was silent on it.
The CPI leader alleged massive loot of the state exchequer by the administration in the name of flood victims, flood control and flood relief every year.
Describing floods as a major hurdle in the development of Bihar, he said the state will progress and can fetch investments only after a permanent solution was evolved.
The construction of dams cannot solve the problem as it would only result in siltation of rivers, he added.
