Crime Branch files chargesheet against 3 agriculture officials in forged DOB case

Srinagar, Oct 14 (UNI) The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of Crime Branch Kashmir on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against three public servants in a fraud and corruption case involving the alleged manipulation of service records to secure undue benefits.
Officials said the chargesheet was presented before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in connection with FIR registered in 2022 under charges related to cheating, forgery, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy, besides provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered following a complaint by the Deputy Director Agriculture, Central Kashmir, alleging manipulation of service records.
Investigators found that Abdul Rashid Gojri, a helper in the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office, Beerwah, had allegedly submitted a forged date-of-birth certificate showing his birth date as February 27, 1973, instead of February 27, 1975.
The investigation further revealed that Gojri was allegedly 17 years and two months old when he was initially engaged as a daily wager in the Agriculture Department.
Two other accused — Manzoor Ahmad Wani, a section officer in the office of the Chief Agriculture Officer, Budgam, and Peer Abdul Rashid, a retired Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer — allegedly facilitated the incorporation of the incorrect date of birth into his service records by disregarding directions for document verification, thereby enabling the regularisation of his services, the Crime Branch said.
The agency said the alleged offences were established against all three accused during the investigation. After obtaining the requisite approval and sanction for prosecution of the two serving government employees, the chargesheet was filed before the court.
The Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant against fraud and report such incidents to the authorities.
