Deep depression over bay to bring heavy rain, gusty winds to South Bengal from Tuesday

Kolkata, Sept 20 (UNI) A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, formed under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining areas, is likely to bring a spell of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds to several parts of South Bengal between September 22 and 26.
The weather began changing sharply across the region on Sunday, with widespread rain and thunderstorms reported from several areas, including Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly.
The Alipore Meteorological Office said the system was gradually intensifying and would increasingly influence weather conditions over South Bengal.
Almost all districts of South Bengal are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday.
The weather is expected to remain largely unchanged on Monday, while the main phase of the adverse weather is likely to begin from Tuesday.
The forecast predicts thunderstorms and rain across nearly all districts of South Bengal on September 22, with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for the day.
On September 23, North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore are likely to receive heavy rain.
One or two places in these districts could record 7-11 cm of rainfall. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected, with a yellow alert in force.
The situation could deteriorate further on September 24.
Heavy rain of 7-11 cm is likely at isolated places in South 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore and Jhargram. South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore could experience gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
An orange alert has been issued for the two districts, while a yellow alert will remain in force across the rest of South Bengal.
On September 25, heavy rain is forecast in Birbhum, Murshidabad, South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore, with isolated areas likely to receive 7-11 cm of rain.
South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore are again likely to experience gusty winds of 40-50 kmph and will remain under an orange alert. Other districts will be under a yellow alert.
The adverse weather is expected to continue on September 26.
North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore, Birbhum, Nadia, Murshidabad and East Burdwan may receive heavy rain at isolated places.
An orange alert has been issued for North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore for gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. Other districts are likely to experience rain and winds of 30-40 kmph.
