Delhi BJP stages protest against Cong leader Akoijam, questions party’s silence

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Keeping the heat on the Congress over the sexual harassment allegations against Congress MP Angamcha Bimol Akoijam, who was a professor at JNU, the Delhi BJP Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Morcha, on Monday, staged a protest demonstration near the Congress office, questioning grand old party’s silence on the matter, and demanding the MP's resignation.
BJP state General Secretary Yogita Singh led the protest, and while addressing the protesters launched a sharp attack on Congress, stating that while the party makes grand claims about women’s dignity and rights, its silence in this matter exposes double standards.
Singh said that before lecturing others on women’s safety, Congress must answer questions concerning cases involving its own leaders and MPs.
Sharpening her attack, Yogita Singh said if the grand old party continues to remain silent on this matter involving its MP despite complaints by 11 female students and the findings of the internal committee, it raises questions about the party’s claims of being committed to women’s welfare.
BJP’s state vice president and Morcha in-charge Ranjit Singh, party leader Ashok Thakur, state unit chief of the Scheduled Tribe Morcha CL Meena, ST Morcha Co-in-charge Sundar Singh Chaudhary, and other office-bearers and party workers also took part in the protest.
According to Meena, the Congress must clarify what action it is taking and how it is fixing accountability in connection with the entire matter involving its MP.
