Delhi CM slams Cong, AAP & CJP; SIR happened earlier as well, protests causing loss, trouble for people

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday slammed Congress, the opposition parties and Cockroach Janata Party over the recent protests against Chief Election Commissioner and the Special Intensive Revision, in the national capital, stating that they were becoming a problem for people in the city.
Gupta described the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as a regular electoral process and questioned the huge inconvenience that protests were causing to traders and the general public.
Expressing indignation, Gupta said protests were creating difficulties for traders and ordinary citizens in Delhi. The closure of metro stations, the impact on shops and commercial activities, and disruptions to people’s movement were affecting economic activity in the capital.
She stated that the national capital and its people have suffered not only financial losses to the tune of crores, but are also facing other hardships.
Slamming Congress, Gupta said the grand old party had not received public support in Delhi elections since 2015, even though SIR had been conducted before.
The Election Commission had carried out SIR at different times under successive governments. The last SIR in Delhi took place in 2002. She questioned why there had been no similar opposition to the process at that time.
Questioning the politics of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Chief Minister said both parties should explain the grounds on which they were opposing a process such as SIR.
Taking a swipe against the AAP, Gupta asked as to how everything was fine when the party came to power after the SIR, but now when people of Delhi rejected AAP led government, suddenly the party remembers protests and sit-ins.
She questioned as to why was AAP not focusing on Punjab and its issues, mentioning that drug rackets are active in the state, while common people are unable to raise their voices.
Gupta said that the political parties should adopt a responsible approach towards democratic institutions and processes and should not inconvenience the public in the name of protest.
Referring to law and order and drug-related incidents in Punjab, the Chief Minister criticised AAP, pointing out that drug issues, and the recent incident of murder in the state required serious attention. UNI APS CDS
