Delhi govt reviews preparations for Durga Puja celebrations

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Delhi Government Cabinet Minister and Chairman of the Special Committee for Durga Puja celebrations, Kapil Mishra, on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for Durga Puja and associated cultural events across the city.
Mishra directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for the convenience and safety of devotees at puja pandals and cultural event venues, and asked District Magistrates to regularly monitor the arrangements.
He directed that all necessary NOCs and permissions be obtained within the stipulated timeline through the Single Window System, stressing the need for better coordination between government departments and organising committees.
Mishra said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Durga Puja celebrations would be organised on a larger scale this year as part of the government's effort to establish Delhi as a cultural capital.
He said the government would provide better facilities to devotees and ensure timely support to organising committees.
The Minister called for adequate CCTV cameras and scanners at pandals and directed police and civil administration to maintain continuous vigilance.
He also instructed officials to ensure proper signage, deployment of health teams, sanitation facilities, mobile toilets, drinking water, uninterrupted electricity, traffic management and crowd-control measures at pandals and event venues.
Reviewing arrangements for idol immersion, Mishra directed officials to maintain cleanliness at immersion sites and ensure that idols are immersed in a dignified manner through proper coordination among departments.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Department was asked to give special attention to the preparation of immersion pits and water arrangements.
He further directed the MCD and NDMC to ensure continuous sanitation at event venues and called for public awareness campaigns to encourage people to maintain cleanliness.
The Minister also asked organising committees to promote awareness on environmental protection, Vocal for Local, cleanliness, water conservation, indigenous products and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
In keeping with religious sentiments, he directed officials to arrange artificial or temporary ponds and tanks for idol immersion, along with special arrangements for cleaning and removing remains left after immersion.
Mishra directed all departments to complete preparations within the stipulated timelines so that devotees do not face inconvenience during the festivities.
The meeting was attended by committee members and MLAs Shikha Roy and Neeraj Basoya, District Magistrates of all districts, senior police officers, and officials from the MCD, DDA, Revenue Department, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Delhi Jal Board and Department of Art and Culture, besides social workers. New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) India’s cheetah conservation programme reached another significant milestone on Monday with KJP21, a 32-month-old Indian-born female cheetah, giving birth to five healthy cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, taking the country’s total cheetah population to 60, including 41 Indian-born cheetahs.
The cheetah was declared extinct in India in 1952, making it the only large carnivore to have disappeared from the country in modern times.
