Dilpreet brace powers India to 8-2 win over South Korea at Asian Games

Kakamigahara (Japan), Sept 24 (UNI) India’s goal machine Dilpreet Singh struck twice as the defending champions extended their dominant run in the Asian Games men’s hockey competition with an emphatic 8-2 victory over South Korea in their Pool A encounter here on Thursday.
Dilpreet, already among India’s leading scorers in the tournament, added two more goals to his tally as India overwhelmed South Korea with relentless attacking hockey and registered their third consecutive win.
India took control early, with Shilanand Lakra opening the scoring in the fifth minute before Dilpreet doubled the advantage in the 10th minute. Captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner a minute later to make it 3-0, before Abhishek added another in the 13th minute.
Dilpreet then returned to the scoresheet in the 25th minute, calmly guiding home a reverse-hit cross from Mandeep Singh to give India a commanding 5-0 lead at half-time.
The forward completed his brace with another reverse-sweep in the 32nd minute as India continued to tear through the Korean defence.
Abhishek Nain made it 7-0 in the 38th minute before South Korea finally opened their account through Kim Jaeho three minutes later.
Kim Yongbok reduced the deficit further in the 52nd minute, but India quickly regained their authority, with Rajinder Singh scoring in the 57th minute to complete the 8-2 victory.
The win extends India's perfect start after they demolished Indonesia 13-1 and Sri Lanka 16-1 in their opening two Pool A matches.
Dilpreet had already made a strong impression in the tournament, scoring four times in India's opening game against Indonesia. His brace against South Korea further underlined his importance to India's attacking unit.
India will next face Japan on Saturday as they continue their campaign to retain the Asian Games title and secure direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
