Documentaries need theatrical release to reach wider audiences: Manipuri filmmaker

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 28 (UNI) Manipuri filmmaker Johnson Meitei Laimujam has called for theatrical screening of documentaries on par with mainstream films to help them reach wider audiences, noting that opportunities for screening non-fiction films remain limited in states such as Manipur.
Speaking at the ‘Meet the Director’ session held at Kairali Portico on the fourth day of the 18th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Keralam (IDSFFK), Laimujam, one of the directors of Khongjomnubi, highlighted the need to make documentaries more accessible to the public.
The session focused on the relevance of documentaries, diverse approaches to storytelling and the challenges faced by filmmakers in taking non-fiction works to audiences.
