DRI seizes 4.9 kg Cocaine worth Rs 24.5 cr at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad, Sep 30 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized 4.9 kg of cocaine valued at approximately Rs 24.5 crore in the illicit market and arrested a passenger arriving from Doha, Qatar, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad near here.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted the Indian passenger on September 29. During examination of his cabin baggage, officials found seven tubes of Lindt Lindor assorted dark chocolates that appeared unusually heavy compared to their marked weight.
On opening the tubes, officers recovered 207 light-yellow oval-shaped capsules concealed along with the chocolates. The capsules contained a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine using a narcotic drug detection kit.
The cocaine, weighing approximately 4.9 kg (gross weight), was seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and the passenger was arrested.
The DRI said further investigation into the case is in progress, a DRI statement said on Wednesday.
