DRI seizes foreign-origin gold worth Rs 2.25 cr at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad, Oct 6 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized 1,481.780 grams of foreign-origin gold worth approximately RS 2.25 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted a passenger who had arrived at Hyderabad from Trichy. During a search, they recovered six pieces of foreign-origin gold concealed in a specially designed pouch worn beneath the passenger’s clothes. The gold pieces were wrapped in blue adhesive tape and carbon paper.
According to the DRI statement on Tuesday night, the passenger stated during questioning that he had collected the gold from inside the aircraft, where it had allegedly been concealed during an earlier foreign leg of the flight.
The gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and the passenger was arrested on October 6, 2026, under the relevant provisions of the Act.
The DRI said it was continuing its intelligence-led enforcement efforts to detect and disrupt gold and other contraband smuggling networks across the country.
