Dry spell to continue in Punjab, Haryana; isolated rain likely on Oct 24-25

Chandigarh, Oct 20 (UNI) Dry weather is expected to prevail across Punjab and Haryana over the next four days, with isolated light rainfall likely in parts of the two states on October 24 and 25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday, ruling out any significant weather warnings for the region during the next seven days.
In separate weather bulletins issued at 12.30 p.m., the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, said generally dry air was prevailing over the region and forecast dry conditions across Punjab and Haryana from October 20 to 23, followed by light rain at isolated places on October 24 and 25. Dry weather is expected to return on October 26.
The department has issued no weather warnings for the seven days, indicating no forecast alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms or strong winds in the two states.
The Chandigarh-specific five-day bulletin, meanwhile, forecasts dry weather from October 20 to 24, with daytime temperatures expected to remain around 31–32 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 14 and 15 degrees Celsius.
The latest observations showed that daytime temperatures remained relatively high despite cooler nights.
In Punjab, Bathinda was the hottest reporting station at 33.2 degrees Celsius, while Ballowal Saunkhri recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 14.3 degrees Celsius. The IMD classified both maximum and minimum temperatures in the state as normal, with no large change during the preceding 24 hours.
In Haryana, Hisar recorded the highest maximum temperature of 32.9 degrees Celsius. The Haryana bulletin listed Chandigarh IAF, at 14.2 degrees Celsius as the lowest minimum temperature among the stations covered by its observations.
The department reported no significant rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, heatwave conditions or strong wind gusts in either state during the preceding 24 hours.
Chandigarh experienced a further decline in nighttime temperatures, with the minimum falling to 14.3 degrees Celsius from 15 degrees Celsius the previous day.
The minimum was 2.1 degrees below normal, while the maximum temperature stood at 32 degrees Celsius, 0.7 notches above normal. The daytime reading was 0.4 degrees lower than the previous day's 32.4 degrees Celsius.
At Chandigarh Airport, the maximum temperature was 30.2 degrees Celsius, compared with 30.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum dropped sharply to 14.2 degrees Celsius from 16.4 degrees Celsius, a decline of 2.2 degrees.
The airport's minimum was also 2.2 degrees below normal, according to the IMD bulletin.
The Chandigarh forecast indicated maximum temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius from October 20 to 23, easing to 31 degrees Celsius on October 24. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 14 and 15 degrees Celsius.
The department forecast generally light winds, with speeds in Chandigarh's five-day outlook mostly ranging between 3 and 10 kmph.
The IMD's district-wise outlook indicated dry weather across Punjab and Haryana during the initial four days of the forecast period, with no weather warnings issued for any district.
Light rainfall could occur at isolated locations in the two states on October 24 and 25, but the department has not issued any warning for those days.
Dry conditions are forecast to return across Punjab and Haryana on October 26.
The Chandigarh-specific bulletin forecasts dry conditions through October 24. Its forecast should be distinguished from the broader Punjab-Haryana regional outlook, which indicates the possibility of isolated rain towards the weekend.
The IMD said generally dry air was prevailing over the region, with no significant weather system identified in the bulletins.
