Eight students drown at Diveagar Beach in Raigad during excursion

Mumbai, Oct 1 (UNI) Eight students from Alandi in Pune district, all aged 16, drowned while swimming in the sea at Diveagar beach in Raigad district of Maharashtra during an excursion, police said on Thursday.
The students, studying in Classes 11 and 12 at Winners Academy in Alandi, had visited the popular beach on Thursday along with their group.
According to police, the tragedy occurred when the students entered the sea for swimming and ventured into deep water.
They were caught in the deep waters and drowned.
As soon as the incident came to light, police personnel, local residents and rescue teams rushed to the beach and launched a search and rescue operation. Despite the efforts, all eight students lost their lives.
Their bodies were subsequently recovered from the sea.
The deceased have been identified as Tanmay Dattatray Wahile, Sumit Bharat Ahire, Pranav Ramdas Bansode, Kaivalya Satish Vasankar, Rajveer Yuvraj Wahile, Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar and Kaustubh Sandeep Daund.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Alandi, where the news of the deaths of eight young students has plunged their families, friends and the local community into deep mourning.
Police said further formalities were underway and an investigation was being conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
