Ex-Nilambur MLA P V Anvar's nomination rejected for by-poll; will contest as independent

Malappuram, June 3 (UNI) The nomination paper filed by All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State Convener and former Nilambur MLA, PV Anvar was rejected by the Election Commission, on technical grounds during the scrutiny, on Tuesday. He is to contest as an independent.
The scrutiny of all 25 nomination papers received for contesting the Nilambur by-election was completed today.
Seven papers, including those of dummy candidates, were rejected by the returning officer, Apoorva Tripathi (Perinthalmanna Sub-Collector), a press release said.
Anvar had filed two sets of nominations and the Election Commission accepted the second set of nomination filed as an independent candidate under the banner of newly-floated Janakeeya Prathipaksha Prathirodha Munnani (JPPM-People Opposition Defense Front), an independent movement formed by Anvar under the leadership of AITC, recently during the Nilambur Assembly by-poll.
Anvar will contest the election as an independent candidate. The AITC lost its national party status and the party had no registration in Kerala. A minimum ten people's signatures is required for submission of the nomination for AITC.
However, it is being reported that the nomination paper submitted by Anvar did not have the signatures of ten people. Anvar declared an asset worth over Rs 52 Crore and liabilities close to Rs 20 crore in the nominations.
As many as 18 nominations were accepted by the Election Commission including from the LDF, UDF, NDA, independents. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 5.
After, this the remaining candidates will be allotted election symbols, and the by-poll will be held on June 19, and counting of votes will be held on June 23.
