Extensive police arrangements made for law and order for Nilambur by-election: Dist Police Chief

Malappuram, June 16 (UNI) District Police Chief R Viswanath has said that extensive police arrangements have been made for maintaining law and order and traffic arrangements related to the 'Kottikalasam day' (finale) tomorrow, for the Nilambur assembly by-elections to be held on June 19.

A total of 773 police personnel, including seven DySPs, 21 Police inspectors, 60 sub-inspectors, district police, Central police force and MSP battalion were deployed for duty under the Nilambur assembly constituency in connection with the by-elections, Viswanath said.

Police convened a meeting with political parties at Nilambur DySP office regarding the finale and decided that separate places have been pre-determined for each party in the Nilambur and Edakkara police station limits where the Kottikalasam takes place on June 17.

Meanwhile, the District Collector, who is the District Election Officer, VR Vinod, has announced that all political workers including leaders who came from outside to campaign at Nilambur constituency should leave as soon as the end of the finale on June 17.

The election campaign ends at 1800 hrs, so illegal assembly, public meetings, microphone announcements, display of election related matters through electronic media, and organisation of musical or other entertainment programmes for campaigning are prohibited after that.

Police Chief, Viswanath said, in the Nilambur station limits, from Nilambur Milma Booth to Hospital Road Junction on CNG Road has been allotted to the UDF; from Hospital Road Junction to Safa Gold Jewellers to the NDA; from Maharani Junction to Nilambur Stationpadi to the LDF; from Nilambur Chandakunnu Bus Stand to PV Anwar and below Chandakunnu to SDPI.

Within the Edakkara police station limits, the areas for NDA/BJP workers to hold demonstrations were determined in advance as per the instructions of various political parties in the meeting, from the Edakkara Eranad Hospital to the new bus stand where the bus boards, from the Edakkara new bus stand entrance to half of the Indira Gandhi bus stand for UDF workers, from the half of the Edakkara Indira Gandhi bus stand to the Fish Market Road for LDF workers, and from the Edakkara Chemmanur Jewellers to Muslyarangadi for SDPI workers.

Due to the possibility of disruption to vehicular traffic on the Nilambur-Gudalur State Highway on the Nilambur CNG Road due to the Kottikalasham, arrangements have been made to divert vehicles if necessary.

In addition, separate Executive Magistrates have been deployed at each important location to closely monitor the law and order situation related to the Kottikalasham.
